Helton Sharon and Dennis at the stadium hosting the 2016 Olympics opening and closing ceremonies. The stadium was also the site of the 2014 World Cup. Maracana is also known as Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho.

The stadium was completely rebuilt for the World Cup and Olympics with its current capacity at about 79,000. The original stadium had a capacity of about 180,000.

Tina Turner performed live in 1988 with an attendance of 180,000 but some believe it was over 200,000. She holds the World Record of the having the largest outdoor attendance for a pop music event
