Gordon Grams joined the Army during World War II upon leaving high school. He was assigned to a Parachuting troop and had a nervous breakdown during training. He never fully recovered
Gordon was called Kludy by Grams Family members because of dark and brooding manner. He lived as a hermit for a while in a one room hotel, a flop house, in downtown Eau Claire. Later in life his life became more normal thanks to the help of the Veterans Hospital Administration and the care promoted by Don and sister Elvera Grams Biesecker
