Driving "down" from the Grand Canyon into the Painted Desert

The Grand Canyon is about 7,000 feet above sea level.  Driving down means getting to about 6,000 feet above sea level

The painted desert is a riot of changing colors based on the illumination of the day

When the sky light changes the paint colors change.

True story:  We took this same tour in the late 1980's with some friends from Brazil. One of the ladies asked, seriously, "How long it took the Indians to paint". No, really, seriously
