The Brazilian Cruzeiro was about one thousand to US$ 1.  We paid about 1,000,000 Cruzeiro for a night at the hotel suite, about $100 US dollars

Brazil had extreme inflation in the 1980's and the 1990's.  The currency on our first trip to Brazil, in 1986, was Cruzado.  The country changed its currency and we saw the old currency literally blowing down the streets in our 1993 visit
