Backstory:

Olga is 84 here and Dennis had a Christmas Day flight on Christmas Day to visit family.  Helton stayed in New York this Christmas 2004 because he had to work over the Holiday period.

Brazilians usually eat after mid-night saying Merry Christmas then.  The dinner was served earlier because of the guests

Dennis' airline reservation on Christmas Day was at 5:30 pm but he got to the airport at 7 am hoping that an earlier seat would become available.  Wrong!  There was a major air traffic control problem in Pittsburgh  (as I recall it), flights were backed up the whole day in much of the country.  Dennis did not get out until scheduled but luckily he got out

Worse, for other people, Pittsburgh was a hub for another major airline, the traffic control tower was out for WEEKs and some people could not get flights until the issue was resolved.  Many had to take trains and buses from distant points to get to that airport.  There was no Christmas Day celebration for them
