The Desert endlessly fascinated Stella
She was always remarking how the major flora seemed spaced, like rows in a garden. It's a natural phenamona, plants only grow to maturity when they can get enough water. The sucessful plant's root systems crowd out others to absorb all the water that they can get. It is as though the plants have a conciousness.
That is what facinated Stella
